Mold grows in moist environments and for most of us we can actually live with mold. Not a lot, but a bit.
Mold itself isn’t harmful but it can become toxic. If this is the case, you need to consult a professional to help you address the mold removal problem. Once you discover mold in your home you need to survey the situation.
If it is a small patch of mold and you’ve never had it before you might be able to handle it on your own. Some of the effective ways to treat mold are to address the main problem.
Mold grows because of moisture. You may have a leaky pipe or a crack near a window that is allowing water to seep in. In time that will develop into mold. By fixing the pipe or sealing the crack, you’ll ensure that the mold will not return to that spot.
You also need to clean the mold that is there. The first and most important thing to remember as you remove the mold is that you want to protect your skin. That means that rubber gloves are essential. Purchase a pair that fit your hands. Rubber gloves that are oversized can slip off or can allow the mold to touch your skin.
Another good idea is to wear a protective suit. You can purchase a protective plastic suit at most hardware stores. Also wearing a mask over your face is advisable. Breathing in the mold is harmful and not something you want to be doing. It’s best to remove and throw out the mold including anything it’s stuck to. This might be curtains or cloths or in some cases even clothing.
The next step is to wash the area with soap. After thoroughly cleansing every surface that the mold touched, go over it with a solution that is 10 parts water to 1 part household bleach. The bleach will kill whatever mold is left. Effective mold removal accomplished!
Once that is done you’ll want to let the area air dry as you take care of throwing out the bleach solution and tossing your gloves into the trash. Taking time to address the initial problem and then cleaning the area thoroughly will take care of the mold problem. See, mold removal isn't that terribly difficult!
